Traditional Marine
customer profile
Traditional Marine Outfitters sells time-honoured nautical products that are very much a part of the fabric of the maritime culture. Traditional Marine provides general nautical décor, and manufactures traditional wood buoys, cork and ball strings, trawl tubs, oar racks, and other items reminiscent of old fishing villages.
business situation
Traditional Marine recognized the Internet could be effective in exporting their products, already knowing that the decorator and wholesale markets wanted to view and purchase their products online. Traditional Marine’s first objective was to understand electronic purchasing and how it can enable B2B and B2C sales. They also wanted to develop a strategy, and implement an e-commerce website. Through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) E-XPORT Mentoring Program, one of Nicom IT Solutions’ consultants was assigned to the company, with the objective of identifying how Traditional Marine could utilize an e-commerce website to effectively deliver their products online, as well as providing instruction on using Prostores and its associated technologies. Nicom met with Traditional Marine over the course of the mentoring period to fully understand the business and online objectives, and to discuss the transition from a static to an e-commerce website. Once the consultant had a clear understanding of the objectives, researching online competitors and deciding on how to present Traditional Marine in the marketplace, followed.
solution
- E-commerce Solution (ProStores)
- Online Functionality
benefits
Traditional Marine now understands the importance of the Internet as a viable channel for selling products and is aware of the importance of taking the time to develop the right website for its business objectives. Through the Mentor Program, Traditional Marine gained a clear understanding of its own Prostores website, and online sales. The resultant web design was developed to lay out the functionality of ProStores elements. The design illustrates the main elements, outlining each key navigational area and the different elements that should be consistently applied to each page of the site. The carefully crafted layout also addresses product placement. As a result, Traditional Marine has the freedom to alter the presentation, selection of content, and naming of navigation links using this guide to ensure consistency in the final effort. The final result well prepares Traditional Marine to shift its product and delivery targets easily, according to evolving changes in the market. Enabling buyers to view Traditional Marine’s catalogue of products over the Internet is helping the company achieve its goal of sales growth, through export. Traditional Marine now has the potential to become a major national player as a provider of decorative marine products.
