Andrew Black: Nicom’s Curling Champion

January 21, 2009 Halifax, Nova Scotia

Last night, January 20th, 2009, The Hacks won against C.H.A.O.S in the Burnside Curling League at the Halifax Curling Club. The Hacks dominated the game from start to finish, winning 7:4. For those agnostic of the sport, the Burnside Curling League is known for its mediocre athletes and low-level amateur groups.

This is the second win in a row for The Hacks. Nicom’s own Andrew Black is a proud member of the team and says, “After a six-game losing streak, The Hacks have won back-to-back games.” The Hacks are no longer in last place, but hold 7th place— out of eight. Andrew continues to say, “I think it’s fair to say we have the momentum of a runaway freight train.”

The real turning point was when two players could not show up and play. At that point The Hacks had to bring in two ‘ringers’; guys that are much better at the sport than the people they are substituting. “We… think there’s an outside shot of making the World’s in Moncton this April,” says Black. The Hacks rarely practice and yet they have still managed to win twice.

As by traditional when the winners treat the losers to beer afterwards, so did The Hacks, C.H.A.O.S.
