Nicom Develops Custom e-Commerce System

First Choice Contacts Inc. is a new, privately owned, online contact lens distributor. As a new "on line" business, First Choice Contacts had a number of very specific requirements that included a corporate identity, logo creation, web site, and back-end databases, to name a few.
Nicom's personalized approach, expertise and experience led to their choosing us to develop the system they required for their new venture.
The first step in this process was the design of a corporate logo followed by the definition of the web site's requirements (e.g., colour schemes, layout, design, content, etc.). As well, while defining the online store functionality requirements, it was decided that a custom online store and backend database/catalogue would be the ideal solution to meet their requirements, versus using a commercial solution that has less flexibility.
First Choice Contacts had some very specific, and important, requirements for their web site such as a customer login for existing customers, order history, product feature selection (e.g., type, base curve, power, etc.) and order tracking. To meet this specific functionality requirement, Nicom custom developed a backend database/cattalo and online store that was tailored specifically to First Choice Contacts.
The online store includes product images, product descriptions, pricing, shopping cart, etc. When consumers purchase items through the online store, the orders are processed automatically online through a payment gateway system. First Choice Contacts' automatically receives an electronic mail message that includes the buyer's name, billing/shipping information, products purchased and prescription information. Also, all of the buyer's order information is automatically entered into the live backend database/cattalo for order history.
Overall, this proved to be a very rewarding project for Nicom. It allowed us to utilize and merge a number of our key skills and technologies into one powerful web solution - in this case, an online company. We worked with First Choice Contacts' personnel to develop this company from the "ground up". It provided an excellent example of how a company can directly benefit from these skills and technologies.
As a result of providing First Choice Contacts with a professional, fully functioning, and eye catching web site, that was fully optimized for search engines; they reached their six month sales projection - in just over two months.
