Tourism British Columbia is recognized as a leader in tourism marketing and development, responsible for marketing the Super, Natural British Columbia® brand to the world. Since becoming a Crown corporation in June 1997, Tourism BC's mandate has been to promote development and growth in the tourism industry, to increase revenues and employment in British Columbia, and to increase the economic benefits for all British Columbians. Tourism BC works closely with British Columbia's tourism industry to promote and develop tourism throughout the province. This ensures the continued long-term growth and prosperity of BC's $9.8 billion industry.

Business Situation

Since becoming a Crown corporation, Tourism B.C. had to stop using the provincial government computer systems. In a relatively short period of time they were expected to source and implement a new accounting and distribution system. Nicom was asked to participate in the software selection process and to use our Requirement's Definition and Purchasing Methodology to help guide the organization through the procurement process. It was important that a package be selected relatively quickly and implementation started as soon as possible.

Solution

Nicom was a consultant for Tourism B.C. when they unexpectedly needed to search for a new Financial Information System. Nicom helped define the requirements for the new system and located a suitable provider/system to match those requirements. Tourism BC was in a unique situation because they only had three months to purchase and implement a new financial information system and to discontinue the use of the government systems.

Benefits

Using our Software Procurement Methodology, Nicom was able to significantly reduce the amount of time required to select and purchase a new system. Tourism British Columbia is now using a new, very comprehensive software package to help manage their operation.
