For over 75 years Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort has been serving up what is usually only found in skier's and snowboarder's dreams: endless mountain terrain in the heart of Banff National Park. Sunshine Village is one of the premier ski resorts in Canada. With 33 feet of 100% natural snow dumped annually at Sunshine Village, skiers and riders always have an opportunity to enjoy fresh powder.
Business Situation
When Nicom was first introduced to Sunshine Village, there were ten different computer systems in use at the resort - from ticketing, to seasons passes, to hotel and restaurant systems. Sunshine Village is quite an extensive operation with quite a number of different physical locations. This included a Calgary office, Banff office and a number of different locations at the resort. The resort itself is spread over a wide area in a demanding environment - mountainous conditions.
Solution
Nicom was asked to investigate how information technology can be more effectively used to make the organization more efficient and then manage the implementation of the new technologies. Nicom developed a data warehouse system to integrate information from many disparate systems, physically distributed some of the operations away from the ski hill to other sites and implemented a Citrix Server to allow for the distributed systems and making much more efficient use of the Internet.
Benefits
Needless to say, Sunshine Village became more efficient and cost effective over the years by harnessing information technology. By utilizing data warehouse integration, Nicom was able to improve many of the separate systems, such as the rental shop, the various food and beverage facilities, ticket sales, and the lodge. The new software allows all these systems to share the same information, and Sunshine Village is now able to better track and use customer activity information to their advantage. This information enables the resort to enhance the experience of their patrons.
